Michael Bastian seems like a pretty sensible guy.  His attention to texture, tailoring, and utilitarian elegance are pretty outstanding. In addition to his eponymous label, he has cooked up an accessibly preppy line for GANT, bringing some street cred to the freshly re-designed brand. Take a peek below!

New Journalism

In April of 1966, Gay Talese published a legendary piece for the ever finessed Esquire Magazine, titled “Frank Sinatra has a cold”.  Noted as one of the most prized pieces featured in the rag, I figure you may be as tickled as I with Gay’s historically impeccable composition.

Obsessives…

Speaking of gentlemen, a video of one of my favorites, Sir Paul Smith,  reveals that he is shockingly more of an obsessive hoarder collector than I.

Alexander McQueen, RIP

In Focus On:, Menswear, Smashin Fashion, Views, Works of Art on 02/11/2010 at 16:50

News announcements today have declared the tragic death of highly coveted, immensely talented (and a young 40 years of age) designer (Lee) Alexander McQueen.  The British-born Central Saint Martins grad challenged the standards of presentation, building an empire based on wild imagination and bizaare, impeccable design.  His influence will certainly survive him.

Parisian Men, Fall 2010

In Focus On:, Menswear, Smashin Fashion, Views on 02/02/2010 at 16:00

I figure most of you aren’t sitting there fumbling through each photo on men.style.com to view the Fall 2010 collections thus far, but hey, maybe I’m wrong. I also figure you’d like a quick view at some of the goods, even if you are a straight guy who doesn’t want to admit interest (the beauty of the internet).  Luckily, I sit here doing this, and have chosen a few photos from the shows for your viewing below.  Honestly, it was tough, with all of the Harem pants, thermals, and puffy shorts…But I have to give proper cred to the champs who kept it (mostly) classic, interesting, and beautiful.

Suiting Up in BK

Kudos to GQ and Selby.com, featuring Martin Greenfield in his Brooklyn based, hand-tailored factory (responsible for some of your favorite blazers). The photos are so charming, as are his question responses and obvious love of BK!

Spring 2010 Lookbooks

In Cinema, Focus On:, Menswear, Musica, Smashin Fashion, Views, Works of Art on 01/28/2010 at 19:31

Ah yes, my favorite movies, the Video Look Books for Spring.  The format allows far more freedom than print, as each collection’s aesthetic, music, mood, words, and characters are seamlessly portrayed in short films.  Steven Alan enjoys the pleasures and boredom experienced in a couple’s summer abode, Temperley London draws us into a fabulous fantasy circus, Yves Saint Laurent channels French boys and Patti Smith…

(Note: I have included Acne’s 2009 Underwear video, but, well, who doesn’t want to look at models jumping around in underwear?)

Experience some of the season’s magic below (more to come !!):
